  Signs and Symptoms of Neonatal Sepsis

Umbilical infections: Severe redness and swelling around the umbilicus require medical attention and hospitalization.

Respiratory infections: Neonatal respiratory infections manifest as rapid breathing, cessation of breathing, and cyanosis (bluish discoloration of the skin).

Extremity infections: Infections of the limbs, particularly bones, are characterized by immobility of the affected limb and high fever.

Eye infections: Eye infections present with purulent eye discharge and require medical evaluation.

Preventive Measures for Neonatal Infections

Avoid overcrowding in the infant's care area.

Bathe the infant 2-3 times a week.

Wash hands thoroughly before providing infant care.

Isolate individuals with respiratory infections from infants in the household.

Exclusively breastfeed the infant.

Keep the infant warm.
